In the footsteps of the Châtellenie de Bergues

An important territorial part of maritime Flanders, the castellany of Bergues originated in medieval times before being definitively established in the 16th century. This set of villages and vassaleries had several political affiliations before becoming French in 1668.
Along your route, find traces of this history that has shaped our villages.

Castle and old stones

Between castles, one in Esquelbecq, the other in Steene and villages with the Village Patrimoine label, this itinerary will make you discover all the charm of old stones. Do not miss to observe the runes or even the typical sparrow-stepping houses of our Flanders!

Clap on heritage

A land of cinema, the cities you will pass through have also won over some screenwriters. Bergues with Dany Boon's film "Bienvenue chez les ch'tis" but Steene with these two castles is not to be outdone: Zylof castle appears in the France 2 series "Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie" and the Château Duriez located in the hamlet of Grand-Millebrugghe, appears in the Canal+ series "Baron Noir".
